The Quick-Fire Guide to Maintaining Your Commercial Fridge
Regular maintenance of your commercial fridge will prolong its lifespan—which will save you money—but just as importantly, it will ensure you maintain adequate hygiene levels.
Indeed, health and safety standards dictate that regular fridge cleaning must take place.
So how do you keep your fridge running smoothly?
Clean the Compressor
The compressor is arguably one of the most important mechanisms of the refrigerator so you need to keep its surface free from dust and debris. Unless you do, it’s likely they’ll clog it up and, in a worst case scenario, stop the cooling mechanisms from working.
Wipe Down the Condenser Coils
These are the coils on the back which serve to take the heat away from the refrigerator. As these are so very important to the cooling process, they should also be wiped down from time to time. Only use cleaners which are approved for commercial use.
Cleaning the Interior Surfaces
All surfaces inside the fridge need to be cleaned on a regular basis to help prevent the build-up of dirt, mould and even harmful bacteria which can cause illness. Pay particular attention to drawers, shelves, crevasses and any items which can be removed. Use warm water and a mild soap, as well as some form of disinfectant.
Make Certain the Door is Adequately Sealed
If the door gasket isn’t properly sealed, a great deal of cold air can be lost. Check your fridge seals and if they’re damaged, replace them as soon as possible. Of course, tasks like replacing fridge door seals should only be carried out by trained professionals, such as our team here at DMM Catering Services.
